Hi all.

Now that my English SAC on this is over, I am now able to freely post not in character. I decided to continue on with this blog, now and again, to both finish off the story of Pride & Prejudice in character, and to maybe use as a ‘continuation’ as such of the land AFTER Pride & Prejudice. Maybe one day I’ll even make it into a ‘Pride & Prejudice’ version in Elizabeth’s point of view.

Onto the story of how it all began:

This, as you may or may not know, is/was an English SAC for my Year 11 Unit 1 English. This was originally created as we were reading up on a book called the Baghdad Blog. I personally preferred reading the blog on the site, rather than the book version, but that’s what we had to do [read the book-version], so I did it.

Elizabeth’s ”blog” officially came to life when I started this in April. Before that however, I had to come up with the concept, and the idea of who’s voice I wanted to use in the blog, what book I would pick, and which character.

My teacher said to me [as I was having trouble finding the perfect idea] that ’since I was a book-lover, how about if I wrote my blog based on a character from one of my favourite books. My Year 10 English teacher told me I would enjoy reading Pride & Prejudice the year before, so I knew about the book.

And then… Elizabeth’s blog took hold. I spent a lot of time during the six or so periods we had to complete the blog refining, editing, writing, creating, thinking….. [you get the general idea] and period by period, the blog came to life.

I gathered together pictures, stories, the book and my intelligent, imaginative brain to create what I call ”my little masterpiece”. And a masterpiece it turned out to be. I got one of the highest marks in the year level, an A and boy, was I extatic!!!

^^ I thought to myself after, should I let Elizabeth’s story fade away or should I continue on. And so I decided I shall continue on with this blog.

In Elizabeth’s words [or my own I create for her]

‘Do not pass by, dear reader, for there is more of my story to come. Much more adventures and expeditions my family shall face. Never fear reader, you will not cease to be amused by the uncanny tales of such an unusual English family’

Love,

I am very sorry I have not written for a while. So much has happened in the past two weeks, and I never got a chance to write up everything. I shall summarise everything here.

Jane and Mr. Bingley are offically engaged. Darcy and him returned to Longbourn, and they have both had reconciled their differences and are now engaged. I am very, very happy for them both.

Lady Catherine came to visit us at Longbourn. Not for good intentions, as she has heard of Darcy’s feelings towards me. It seems she was planning for her daughter to marry him, and is not happy that Mr. Darcy and I may have feelings for each other. We both got into an arguement, and I eventually told her to leave.

Mr. Darcy and I have talked about his arragements with Mr. Wickham’s marraige to Lydia. We have also, [like Bingley and Jane] reconsiled our differences, and he has asked for my hand in marriage. I, am very honoured to have been asked, and have accepted.

Mr. Bingley shall be married to Jane soon, and I to Mr. Darcy. Both of our parents are very happy, and my father is pleased with my decision to marry Mr. Darcy. He asked me if I was happy with marrying him, and whether it would make me happy.

I told him it would make me very happy, and so we are now preparing for the Bennets’ double wedding.

Until next time,

Lydia and Wickham left Longbourn just a moment ago. They have gone on a carriage to Newcastle. Lydia is still acting very oddly, and she is still not one bit consious of either mine or Jane’s feelings.

She actually said to Jane that “she will now take the place of her, as she is now a married woman” Jane was utterly shocked, and so was I. I, myself, can not believe that Lydia could say something like that to such a lovely sister as Jane!

I am now reading a letter that I recieved from Mr. Gardiner. He informes me that Mr. Darcy was the one who bribed Mr. Wickham to marry Lydia. As he originally told me, Wickham had no intention whatsoever of marrying her, and he was right.

Wickhams feelings for Lydia are not matched by her feelings for him. She is utterly and completely in love with him, while he does not think of her as his equal. I wholeheartedly hope that Lydia and Wickham will remain together for a long time, though I fear that my sister realises that Wickham’s feelings for her are not as strong as hers are for him.

There are many regulations and rules in our society, of which some I agree with, and some I don’t. Here is an insight into family life here in Longbourn, Hertfordshire in England. When there are women born into the family, it is the mothers’ job to marry them off to a respectable partner. Many do not marry completely for love. It is how our society works.

I think that it is important that one loves someone, not marrying just because they are respectable or have a lot of money. To me, love conquers all, especially money. Wealth and marrying off your daughter should not be the highest priorities.

All women intending to marry under the age of 21, must have the full consent of both of their parents and the couple must go through the correct marriage ritual.

I think that is a very fair rule. I don’t believe there is any need for one to marry under the age of 21, unless they are in the situation where they need to. I also believe that one should consult their parents on whether it is time to marry, not just cart themselves off to be.

If there is a son in the family, then the son will inherit the families’ property when the father of his family is deceased. If there is no son born into the family, then the male cousin will inherit the families’ property.

My opinion on this is that women should be allowed to inherit property. I do not think that men should be the only ones to inherit, because I believe that women deserve as much rights as men.

Women are not allowed to keep the money they earn, and must be passed onto the husband or father of the family.

This rule I also do not agree with. I believe that if you earn money, you should be entitled to keep it. If you earn it, you have earnt the right to keep it. That is my belief anyway.

I hope this gives you, as the reader, more of an insight into both my society, and my opinions on the traditions and customs of this society.

Lydia arrived at Longbourn today. She is still the same boastful, flamboyant and eccentric soul as always. Mother embraced her as she arrived, and chatted away. Father didn’t say a word, he is still very upset with Lydia. Jane and I were not in the best of moods, and that bad mood deepened when Lydia harrassed us for our congratulations.

Does she expect all good graces from us? After what she has put the whole family through??? Does she even understand how worried we were about her safety!!!

I still am comprehending the whole situation; and what is going on. Lydia is safe, but she doesn’t seem to care about anything except the fact that “she is going to be married and that everyone should know about it”….

Well, if it wasn’t for her Uncle and Aunt sacrificing their earnings to get the two married, she wouldn’t be married!! And now, because of her, we are in debt to the Gardiners; and we shall be for-ever!

Lydia is very, very lucky that our family has not disowned her. We would not do that anyway because we would not do something that shameful. And that would make the situation a whole lot worse for us all.

I hope she learns from what she has done, but Jane and I highly doubt that she will not. Lydia is still Lydia, and Lydia she shall be.

Mother is now so happy, as her wish for a daughter to be married at sixteen has come true. I, personally, think Lydia should not have put all of us through so much strife and worry, and am very angry at the fact that she is getting off very lightly. Even though she has been found, it was very deangerous for her to do what she did, as she could have landed herself in much worse a situation.

She is lucky that Mr. Gardiner is kind enough to organise for her and Wickham to be married. I am not happy that she has put herself in such a dangerous place, but I am happy that she is safe and well.

I surely hope Lydia realises what she has done, and will take the consequences of it from myself and her sisters. Father was at first very angry; and said to Mother that both her and Mr. Wickham would never be welcome at our house again. I quite agreed.

I shall treat her with the same treatment that I would expect someone to treat me with if I had committed such a horrible wrongdoing. Lydia, I hope you do not expect much kindness from your sisters and I, as we are not pleased of what you have done.

Our family just received a letter from our Uncle and Aunt in London [the Gardiners'].They have sent it informing us that they have found Lydia and Mr. Wickham!! I am sorry that I am posting this at such an early hour, but I thought that you, my blogger friends, should know about the good news.

Lydia and Wickham are not married, as yet, and Mr. Gardiner believes that there may have been no intention of them marrying, but is sure they will be soon. Our Uncle has so generously given more money for the engagement, and our family is in debt to his doings. We are so very happy that they shall be married soon, and are eagerly awaiting more news.

Father is now composing a letter to Mr. Gardiner for finding Lydia and Mr. Wickham’s whereabouts, and for delivering us such wonderful news. We all cannot wait to see our darling sister, Lydia.

I promise I shall write soon, when there is more news.

I am very sorry that I have not been able to update my blog as often as I would like. Here is a summary of the events that have occured so far.

Mr. Collins visited us. He told us that he has informed Lady Catherine of Lydia’s elopement and that she says that Lydia dying would have been a better outcome than her elopement.

He also told us that no one will want to associate with us anymore because of what Lydia has done. I told him to leave, as he would be therefore contradicting his statement by associating with us. Hopefully he shall not return.

None of us is coping very well. Mother is in tears cooped up in her bedroom, only coming down for meals. Kitty hid as soon as she saw Mr. Collins’ carriage.

My father has returned, and says that he shall be more stricter with us from now on. Kitty replied that she would love to visit Lydia, and my mother has told her she “shall not be present in society unless one of her older sisters is there.” We also must inform our parents of where we are going, and when we expect to return.

All of us are very worried about what will happen with our future lives. This has put a great burden on the family, and until we find Lydia, the family name will be tainted.

Today, Mr. Darcy visited me at Longbourn with my family, and both of us had a conversation about the current situation of Lydia and Mr. Wickham. He informed me that Wickham would never marry my sister, as when his own sister, Georgiana, was fifteen, Wickham attempted to elope with her. I am still extremely wary of Mr. Darcy, as I am not sure what to expect of such a man. I am not sure what to think towards him, as I believe I may love him, but I shall bury those thoughts for I shall never see him again.

My sister’s elopement will affect not just her, but the whole family.

We shall never again be able to attend the upper class balls, or be present anywhere near any of those places. I do not understand why Lydia has done what she’s done. I believe she may have been too caught up in the idea of love, and therefore did not think of how her actions would affect all of us, including herself. She did not observe the consequences, and this means that our family will be looked down upon.

Neither her, nor Wickham will be able to inherit part of Fathers property as they are not properly married and the property is entailed, so Wickham will be unable to inherit it without a proper marriage.

What shall we do? Father must find her, and I hope he does find both of them soon.

I have just returned home from the Gardiners’ and as I feared, my family is not taking the news well. Mother is very distressed, and Jane has told me that Father is visiting our Aunt and Uncle in London and shall remain there for about a week. My Uncle and him shall conduct a search for Lydia and Mr. Wickham, as we believe them to be hiding somewhere in London at the current moment.

As yet, we have not recieved any word from either Lydia or Mr. Wickham. We hope that Lydia is alright. I shall keep you informed about the current happenings.
